Welcome to our website and enjoy the course with the panoramic views of Waiheke Island, Rangitoto and the distant Coromandel peninsula.

The Formosa Golf Resort's golf course is surrounded by lush farmland and stunning views over the Hauraki Gulf, and is about 45 minutes from downtown Auckland or 35 minutes from the airport at Manukau. The course was designed by golfing legend Sir Bob Charles and is modeled on the Augusta National, home of the US Masters and was the venue for the 1998 New Zealand Open.

Formosa is listed in The Finest Golf Clubs of the World and covers an area of 440 acres. The course has panoramic views of Waiheke Island and Rangitoto from its clifftop and coastal fairways, along which hundreds of pohutukawa trees and palms have been planted. Sixteen of the course's holes have northerly views of the Hauraki Gulf and its many islands. The 11th to the 16th holes run along a clifftop overlooking the shoreline.

The course caters for golfers of every ability. The practice facilities include an all weather under cover driving range.

I played this course last year 2011 mid winter and it was bad . I play there weekly now and this place has certainly made moves in the right direction....Finally . The course is twice as good as last year and seems to get better every time i visit. Formosa looks to be doing the right things to get this course back into shape. At $600 for 12months membership you cant go wrong. Cant wait to see how good it will be near the end of summer.

I'm not even sure where to start!

When your ball goes on the fairway and you can't find it, there is a problem, I don't know when they decide to mow but when the fairway grass looks like the rough that's not good and dont get me started on the rough ...

If you decide to go there, make sure you bring plenty of balls with you because even if you do a great shot , you might not find you ball.

Weeds are everywhere... also be careful of the deadly plants around.

bunker ... no sand, just dirt , some even where filled with water with ducks taking a bath. we took photo of that!

Oh yeah, the changing room looks great until get under the showers and not HOT water just cold browns water... disgusting!

Arriving at Formosa Auckland Country Club for my Golf Course Review I was looking forward to playing on a course designed by Bob Charles and with a reputation of a top resort. Unfortunately the entire experience was rubbish. to begin with the cart was wet with not only water but bird crap as well. There was rubbish all around the first tee and several bins around the course over flowing. I lost four balls, none out of bounds just lost in the middle of the worst fairways I have ever played. How crap can a course be. I would rather play at a crappy pitch and putt than at Formosa again. Rubbish greens with hundreds if not thousands of unimpaired holes. The bunkers were unbelievable. No sand just dirt. I hope more people are made aware of how crap this course actually is and realise that half of the scenery is now gorse bushes. Rubbish rubbish rubbish.

Thoroughly disappointed with Formosa Auckland Country

For my Golf Course Review of the Formosa Auckland Country I was aware that the course was not in championship condition but it was terrible.

At first i thought the greens were cored but then noticed there were no corring holes, they were covered in sand with dead patches, hundreds of pitch marks and divots holes all over them, often the pin was placed in the worst areas which resembled putting on the beach.

Bunkers were mud and gravel, no sand with huge puddles.

Fairways were boggy and tee off's in desperate need of attention.

I would be embarassed to work or be associated with this course.

It is a terrible shame as standing on the tee off it has great scenery and layout.

Dissapointed! in Formosa Auckland Country Club

My Golf Course Review of the Formosa Auckland Country Club I was very dissapointed. So looking forward to playing there. Next Time I'll play on one of the neighbouring farms & give them some money!

In any business you need good service & nice conditions. Service avg, facilities poor!!

NZ Golf Course Reviews

It has been a commercially acceptable practice to review hotels and restaurants and give them a star rating. We at RYC dont see the problem in doing golf course reviews as long as the person doing the rating is unbiased and gives the course a fair golf course rating. I myself have never ever played a public golf course that I have walked away from without having some positive remarks. As we all know some golf and country club courses are better than others and in many instances the smaller courses will have a friendlier welcome and attract golf course communities. I dont know about the other members of the RYC golf communities but I play golf to enjoy myself and get some exercise as well as the challenge provided by the best golf courses. More often than not I cause my own problems especially on the top golf courses and often end up grumpy. My bad golf cant be blamed on the course so I try to do the Golf Course Reviews after I have relaxed and had time to reflect. As you all know the rating procedure provided by RYC United Kingdom sticks to a stringent vetting procedure and we encourage Patrons to give honest and positive golf course reviews. The fact that we remain transparent and offer the courses right of reply seems to be in interest to the Golf Unions and the other RYC golf communities who can use our golf course map to find the top golf courses.

NZ Top 100 Golf Courses

Our NZ Top 100 Golf Courses list is compiled on a weekly basis from Golf Course Reviews received from our Patrons based on our 25 Golf Course Rating Criteria. Unlike other NZ Top 100 Golf Course Rating lists our list changes on a weekly basis and also updates the Golf Course Top 100 Status automatically.

Best NZ Golf Courses

Choosing the best golf courses can often be a difficult decision as each member of the RYC golf communities has different playing abilities. As part of our golf course reviews we have included other aspects such as the enjoyment of the course and the 19th hole amongst others. So the best golf courses on Rate Your Course are chosen based on a lot of criteria and not necessarily how difficult they are. In addition  a golf and country club may be more expensive than a public golf course but this does not make it into our top golf courses.

RYC has a unique Review System that is both online and via the Post that is based on a set of 25 criteria on which our Patrons Rate and Review a Golf Course. All Reviews are verified by our staff and all Patrons are encouraged to provide a reference number,we stick to a stringent vetting procedure and we encourage Patrons to give honest and positive golf course reviews.
