Enjoy the vistas of our 18-holes golf course with Spectacular views. A warm welcome awaits you.

Being one of the most long lived organisations of any kind in Putaruru, the Putaruru Golf Club has seen many homes.

In 1920 a few holes were marked out on the property of the late Mr A Bent on Overdale Road.  In 1921 a meeting was called to form a Golf Club and a subscription of £1-1-0 for men and 10/6d for ladies was proposed.  This was subsequently amended to 5/- for men and 2/6d for ladies.

Three shifts to other 9 holes courses complete the history records.  In 1923 and then in 1925 and eventually to this present site in 1938 when the Club’s leased enough land off MR G F Bayly on Back Lichfield Road to form a 9 hole golf course and build a Clubhouse. The greens were formed and fenced with 5 wires and the farms sub divisional fences had to be played over without relief.

In the course of time, the ladies section became the Ladies Club.  The first recorded Annual General Meeting of the Putaruru Golf Club was held in April 1924.  It is of interest to learn that at the AGM in May 1929 the ladies were given the right to be represented by two ladies who could

In my Golf Course Review of the Putaruru Golf Club I discovered that it was a nice Golf Course with an excellent Atmosphere around the Course and set in a pretty Scenery and Environment. We received a friendly welcome on arrival but the course didn't have a Pro Shop,Practice Range and Putting Green so I rated these as 1 out of 10.The good news was that things improved on the course and the Greens,Fairways and Tees Rated well at 8 out of 10. what was also nice to see was the Cleanliness and Manicuring of the Course which showed a keen interest from the ground staff. The Putaruru Golf Club also has a great layout and design which presents a fair challenge to all levels of Golfer. One other thing to mention is that there was not a great Availability of Buggies/Carts/Caddies so maybe it would be advisable to take your own. All the Putaruru Golf Club is great value for money as well as very enjoyable round and I would definitely play it again!!

NZ Golf Course Reviews

It has been a commercially acceptable practice to review hotels and restaurants and give them a star rating. We at RYC dont see the problem in doing golf course reviews as long as the person doing the rating is unbiased and gives the course a fair golf course rating. I myself have never ever played a public golf course that I have walked away from without having some positive remarks. As we all know some golf and country club courses are better than others and in many instances the smaller courses will have a friendlier welcome and attract golf course communities. I dont know about the other members of the RYC golf communities but I play golf to enjoy myself and get some exercise as well as the challenge provided by the best golf courses. More often than not I cause my own problems especially on the top golf courses and often end up grumpy. My bad golf cant be blamed on the course so I try to do the Golf Course Reviews after I have relaxed and had time to reflect. As you all know the rating procedure provided by RYC United Kingdom sticks to a stringent vetting procedure and we encourage Patrons to give honest and positive golf course reviews. The fact that we remain transparent and offer the courses right of reply seems to be in interest to the Golf Unions and the other RYC golf communities who can use our golf course map to find the top golf courses.

NZ Top 100 Golf Courses

Our NZ Top 100 Golf Courses list is compiled on a weekly basis from Golf Course Reviews received from our Patrons based on our 25 Golf Course Rating Criteria. Unlike other NZ Top 100 Golf Course Rating lists our list changes on a weekly basis and also updates the Golf Course Top 100 Status automatically.

Best NZ Golf Courses

Choosing the best golf courses can often be a difficult decision as each member of the RYC golf communities has different playing abilities. As part of our golf course reviews we have included other aspects such as the enjoyment of the course and the 19th hole amongst others. So the best golf courses on Rate Your Course are chosen based on a lot of criteria and not necessarily how difficult they are. In addition  a golf and country club may be more expensive than a public golf course but this does not make it into our top golf courses.

RYC has a unique Review System that is both online and via the Post that is based on a set of 25 criteria on which our Patrons Rate and Review a Golf Course. All Reviews are verified by our staff and all Patrons are encouraged to provide a reference number,we stick to a stringent vetting procedure and we encourage Patrons to give honest and positive golf course reviews.
